On Fashion:
This past week I was challenged to go 6 months without purchasing one (1) article of clothing. I didn't quite "accept" this challenge, but I'm going to try my hardest. You will read entries of this struggle as well, I call it "The Miserable Life of a Fashionista during this Recession". Now, lets be honest...I don't leave home every morning with Prada, Marc Jacobs, DVF etc. I'm on a 25 year olds budget, going from making descent money at an Architecture firm, to making 75% of that salary by accepting a job for "The Family Business". So, my findings are classic with a twist & on a budget. This is not to say I don't "treat" myself once in a blue moon. My background/experience with fashion is considered "Entry Level", but I'll take it, because guess what...I have the rest of my life!
On Architecture:
Notice, I purposely left the font color of "Architecture" Black. Some could say I'm bitter...and some would say I have perfectly good reason to be. I have applied to over 50 firms since becoming a victim of the recession, and have received maybe 2 inquiries...both asking if I could change the file type of my resume document to something compatible with a PC, even though I thought the translation was successful from my MAC. C'mon...instead of asking me such nonsense, they should have just went out an bought a MAC. That settles that. Can someone tell me WHY every firm that does have a open position requires a minimum of 10 years experience?! I have a friend that handles HR who I happened to vent this subject to (poor guy), I said, "they might as well have everyone post their D.O.B. on their resumes since having 10 years of experience would have required me working in my field since I was 15!" He said "Nooo, they can't do that, that's considered discrimination!". Well, guess what...I consider having to have 10 years experience to get a damn job DISCRIMINATION! Our generation may not have the highest level of professionally presentable or great work ethic people, but I happen to consider myself very presentable with a fantastic work ethic and all I'm asking for is a shot! Try me, if all else fails, just lay me off during my "Probation Period" so you don't have to pay for my Unemployment. Seems simple enough. I guess not :( So my background/experience in Architecture is having a Bachelor of Science in Architecture 1 year of construction documents for the first LEED Certified building in downtown Houston, currently being built as I type, and last but not least, Construction Administration for 3 months and for the same building. So I spent 1 Year 3 Months on ONE building. Sick. I digress.
On Walmart:
On Life/Design/Art:
To me, these are all enter-twined. Look at your chair. Is it comfortable? If not, guess what, it affecting your life. The DESIGN of it is affecting your LIFE. Art? What some people consider Art, I may differ. It's completely opinionated. I happen to like my own pictures, one being a picture of my mother when she was in high school. This is beauty...
